Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata, June 5, 2025 – Medica Superspeciality Hospital (a unit of Manipal Hospital Group) today organised a heart-warming event on the occasion of World Environment Day, where the silent workers of Ward No. 109 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, who are responsible for keeping the city clean every day, were honoured. The event held at the EM Bypass Campus was attended by Kolkata Municipal Corporation Councillor Smt. Ananya Banerjee (Ward 109), with Soma Chakraborty Manipal Hospital leadership and staff.
Speaking at the event, Smt. Ananya Banerjee said, “This World Environment Day reminds us that a healthy life begins with a clean and sustainable environment. This initiative by Manipal Hospital to honour the tireless cleanliness warriors of Ward 109 is truly commendable and timely. Since 2015, I have been witnessing how Medica – now part of the Manipal Hospital Group – has been taking various eco-friendly initiatives. Just as the hospital considers cleanliness as one of the fundamental principles of healing, similarly, these sanitation workers are the silent guardians of the health of our society. Such initiatives would not have been successful without the active support of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, they are playing a vital role in building a healthy Kolkata.”
The event included a special reception for the sanitation workers and a heartfelt interaction with them. Local residents also joined the event to express their gratitude to them and pledged to fulfill their responsibility to protect the environment.
In this context, Dr. Ainav Devgupta said, "Manipal Hospital believes that health and environment complement each other. On the occasion of World Environment Day, we did not just celebrate symbolically, but also paid tribute to those who silently keep our environment clean. Recognizing their contribution is a sign of our deep commitment to community health and sustainable healthcare."
