Sandeep Patil recalls memories on 42 years of India’s 1983 World Cup win: I’m proud to be part of that team.
Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata: India’s historic 1983 World Cup winner Sandeep Patil on the 42nd Anniversary of one of India’s greatest cricketing glory.
On June 25, 1983, the Kapil Dev-led Indian team outclassed West Indies by 43 runs in the World Cup final at the Lord’s to mark the beginning of a new era in India cricket history.
CAB President Snehasish Ganguly handed Mr Patil a specially designed Eden Gardens souvenir, flower bouquet and a shawl. The specially designed Eden Gardens souvenir has a list of all the international matches hosted by the iconic ground since 1934 till date.
Recalling the 1983 World Cup winning moments, Mr Patil said, “Firstly, I thank CAB President Mr Ganguly and other CAB officials for remembering us. I remember clearly the moments when we lifted the World Cup beating the mighty West Indies. After our return to the country, CAB had invited the winning team and after 42 years to remember the oldies is so sweet.”
“We have been talking about the celebration for the last 42 years. I am so happy and proud to be part of the historic World Cup winning team. I have so many memories, from India being underdogs to beating the mightly West Indies in the final is truly special,” Patil said.
