4th day of Odisha Festival witnessed mesmerizing play- Ravana Chhaya, a traditional shadow puppet theatre from Odisha

Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata, 1st July 2025 – The 4th day of Odisha Festival witnessed Ravana Chhaya, a traditional shadow puppet theatre from Odisha, performed by the renowned artist Padmashree Sri Gouranga Charan Dash and his troupe. This unique and ancient art form is being showcased with the generous support of the Odisha Government, ensuring the preservation and promotion of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.

Ravana Chhaya is Odisha's traditional shadow puppetry. This is a condensed presentation of the episode of Sita's abduction from Biswanatha Khuntia's Bichitra Ramayana. Special thanks to Dr. Gauranga Dash for his invaluable research and consistent, graceful support.

In addition, the audience were treated to a soulful performance by the SWRADHARA troupe,  sponsored by the Odisha Government. This group is known for its expressive presentations rooted in Odia folk traditions, music, and storytelling.

The Rath Yatra & Odisha Festival 2025 has been drawing large crowds and enthusiastic participation from across the city. The cultural night on July 1st gave a delightful experience for all, celebrating the spirit of devotion, tradition, and community through art and performance.
