Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata, 26 August 2025: Resuming their Calcutta Football League 2025 Premier Division Group A campaign after a two-week hiatus, Emami East Bengal FC registered a 4-0 win over George Telegraph SC in their tenth match of the tournament at Barrackpore's Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay Stadium earlier today.
The victory propels the Red & Golds to the summit of the Group A standings with 20 points from 10 matches (6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats). The result takes them closer to securing a spot in the Super Six stage, where the top three teams from each group would advance.
EEBFC dominated the proceedings, but had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock. The first 45 minutes were a cagey affair, with both sides creating chances, but being unable to convert.
George Telegraph defended resolutely, thwarting EEBFC's attacks and keeping the scoreline goalless at half time.
The second half saw EEBFC unleash their full firepower. Vishnu PV opened the scoring for the Red & Golds in the 68th minute. After David Lalhlansanga's header off Vanlalpeka Guite's cross from the left was saved by the rival custodian from point blank range, Vishnu scored off the rebound to give his side the coveted lead.
A few minutes later, EEBFC were awarded a penalty after Shyamal Besra was brought down inside the box. David stepped up to take the spot kick, but was denied by the George Telegraph goalkeeper Tuhin Dey Talukdar.
In the 83rd minute, substitute Sayan Banerjee doubled the lead with a left-footed screamer from inside the box. It was Sayan's third goal in two matches.
In the 88th minute, Vishnu scored his second goal of the game. He latched on to an accurate pass from Besra and charged into the box before slotting the ball home with a clinical left-footed finish.
Manotosh Maji fired in EEBFC's fourth goal off Besra's assist to cap off a ruthless second half display.
*Reflecting on the win, EEBFC B Team Assistant Coach Archishman Biswas said*, "We are happy with the fact that the team is creating a lot of chances in every game. We need to be more clinical in the final third. We need to win our next match to seal a Super Six berth."
EEBFC will play their final CFL Premier Division Group A match against Kalighat Milan Sangha on 29 August, Friday at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium.
