Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata, August 18, 2025: With the emphasis on preserving tradition more than a festival, Hazra Park Durgotsav
has entered its 83rd year. It is a movement built on inclusion, tradition and community spirit. Founded in 1942 under the vision of Subhash Chandra Bose, the then Mayor of Kolkata Corporation, the puja was conceived to embrace the marginalized who had long been excluded from mainstream celebrations. From its initial inception at Padmapukur to finding a permanent home at Hazra Park, the puja has grown immensely in Kolkata while staying true to the ideals of its founders. Since 2016, it has been proudly known as Hazra Park Durgotsav.
This year, Hazra Park Durgotsav has presented its theme as "Perspective". The event was graced by the presence of various eminent personalities. Present were Shri Shobhandeb Chatterjee, Agriculture Minister, Government of West Bengal; Shri Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, Hazra Park Durgotsav Committee; Artist Shri Biman Saha and many others.
Conceived by the visionary artist Biman Saha, this theme explores colour not only as a visual delight but also as a profound language of self-expression. For an artist, each colour reveals a piece of the heart - their thoughts, emotions and visions. When these shadows flow over the form of Goddess Durga, they create a silent poem, a wordless story, born from the heart of the creator. -
Speaking to the media, Shri Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, Hazra Park Durgotsav Committee, said, “Colour is not just the ornament of the world, it is its heartbeat. Every colour carries an emotion. Like the warmth of love, the fire of protest, the courage of conviction, the light of hope. Colour is the heartbeat of life. Through ‘Dristikona’, we want people to look beyond the obvious, to see how colour not only shapes the form of the Goddess but also our way of thinking. Every colour tells a story, and this year, we invite everyone to be a part of that story.” He invited everyone to come to the puja with family and friends.
This year’s pandals and idols will embody the multidimensional nature of colour, woven into every artistic detail, every layer of design and every corner of the celebration. Visitors will be invited not just to observe but to enter into the experience, allowing colours to change their own perspective.
Hazra Park Durgotsav 2025 promises a brilliant journey through art, philosophy and emotion where every color tells a story and every story changes our perspective of seeing.
