Sonali Halder, BS News Agency Kolkata: Today is September 11th, a historic day, on this day in 1893, the great Swami Vivekananda delivered his historic speech at the Chicago Dharma Mahasabha. Remembering this day in its 133rd year, the "Swami Vivekananda Cup" District Club Football Championship, the brainchild of Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to spread Swamiji's ideals among students and youth everywhere and to bring out talented players from the district, was inaugurated today by Hon'ble Sports Minister Shri Arup Biswas at the grounds of Swamiji's Karmabhumi, the sacred Belur Math, in the presence of Swami Bodhsaranandaji Maharaj, (Joint General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Mission) and Swami Gyanvartananda (Manager, Ramakrishna Math and Mission). Honorable Minister Arup Roy, Honorable Minister Manoj Tiwari, local MLA Rana Chatterjee, MLA Kalyan Ghosh, MLA Gautam Chowdhury, IFA President Ajit Banerjee, IFA Vice President Swarup Biswas, officials and former players of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mahamedan were present. This three-month-long tournament, jointly organized by the Youth Welfare and Sports Department of the Government of West Bengal and IFA, will be held in 23 districts in a total of 348 games. The prize money is 50 lakh rupees. The champion team of this tournament will get 5 lakh rupees and the runners-up team will get 3 lakh rupees.
