The Election Commission has taken a strict decision regarding SIR, rejecting Mamata Banerjee's objections and cancelling the Family Register Certificate.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: A new controversy has erupted surrounding the special process of voter list revision in the state, known as SIR (Special Intensive Revision). Although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised objections regarding the documents related to the SIR hearings, the Election Commission has stated that there will be no change in the established rules. Neither the Family Register Certificate nor the permanent residency certificate will be acceptable for SIR. Recently, Roll Observer and senior IAS officer C. Murugan visited South 24 Parganas to review the SIR process. The incidents of protests against him in Magrahat and Kulpi have already come under the strict scrutiny of the Election Commission. However, another serious issue came to light during that visit.
C. Murugan's observations revealed that in some areas, Family Register Certificates were being accepted for SIR, going beyond the prescribed documents. It was even alleged that some BLOs (Booth Level Officers) had accepted these documents.
