It occurred around 9:07 PM on February 3, 2026.* On Tuesday night, a sudden earthquake shook Kolkata and large parts of its suburbs. A mild tremor was felt around 9:05 PM on Tuesday night. The earthquake measured 3.6 on the Richter scale. The sudden tremor caused panic among the city's residents. Many people left their homes and went outside for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, ceiling fans were seen swaying in several multi-story buildings in the city. The tremor was felt more strongly in taller buildings. The earthquake reportedly lasted for a few seconds.
According to seismograph data, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Myanmar. The epicenter was approximately 98 kilometers from Yenangyaung in Myanmar. The tremor's effects were also felt in Bangladesh, according to initial reports.
No damage has been reported so far. However, the sudden earthquake once again caused anxiety among the people of Kolkata. Notably, a comparatively stronger earthquake was felt in Kolkata on November 21st, which had increased concerns among the city's residents.
The administration is reportedly monitoring the situation.
