Sanchita Chatterjee BS News Agency: Rotary District Public Image Committee under Chairman Subhojit Roy felicitated Santoor Maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya on his receiving the 4th Highest civilian award of India Padmashri in 2026.

Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya is the disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar and is the exponent of Santoor of Maihar Gharana.
He invented Menkas for the instrument and has completed over 4 decades in making Hindustani classical music a global phenomenon. He has also won the Tansen Award and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Tarun Bhattacharya has been Rotary’s global ambassador towards Polio Eradication Programme and now actively promotes Thalassaemia Awareness through his music. His philanthropic activities includes fund raising concerts for several causes as eye and heart surgeries, education and Thalassaemia treatment.

Rotary recognizes his contribution and felicitated him at the Kolkata Press Club.
