Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Tarique Rahman of BNP is a born Lahoriite and this Lahoriite's BNP party has won the 13th parliamentary elections held last Friday in Bangladesh.

Although Dhaka is labelled as his birthplace, given his National credentials and as stated by Wikipedia, but the son of three-times the Prime Minister, (late) Begum Khaleda Zia and father Ziaur Rahman, the current Chairman of BNP political party, Tarique Rahman's correct birthplace is Lahore, Pakistan.

His father Ziaur Rahman was a Major in Pakistan Army, before he switched loyalty in the wake of 1971 war, and joined East Pakistan, aka Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Khaleda and the children stayed back in Gujranwala under the care of a garrison commander who provided protection and looked after the family's well-being.

Months later, with special arrangements made by Pakistan Army, the Rahman family then migrated to Bangladesh at the end of the year in 1971.

Tarique Rahman shared these details with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly, on the occasion of his state visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh to condole and stand in solidarity with Tarique Rahman on the sad demise of his mother Begum Khalda Zia.

Tarique Rahman, after getting banished from Bangladesh by Hasina Wajid , has spent a large portion of his exiled life in the United Kingdom. India has labelled him as Bangladesh 'Dark Prince' whereas to Pakistan, this 'Dark Prince' is a blood-brother.

Congratulations to Tarique Rahman on securing victory with a grand margin. He's the new PM as Jamaat-i-Islami has conceded.
