Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: A Major Surprise Ahead of the Candidate List! Former Cricketer Shibshankar Paul Joins Trinamool. On the eve of the announcement of the candidate list for the upcoming Assembly elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress delivered a significant surprise. Just prior to the scheduled release of the full candidate list on Tuesday afternoon, a host of prominent personalities joined the "Grassflower" camp. Among them are former cricketer Shibshankar Paul, and distinguished educationists Tanushree Hansda and Muhammad Abdul Matin. State government ministers Chandrima Bhattacharya and Partha Bhowmick welcomed them by handing them the party flag. Meanwhile, at an event organized at the Jhargram district office, Mangal Soren—the Law Officer of Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University—also formally joined the Trinamool fold.
Political analysts believe that Trinamool is seeking to consolidate its position by inducting prominent individuals from various professions into the party even before the electoral battle officially begins. In particular, the induction of representatives from the Junglemahal region and the education sector is being viewed as an integral part of the party's strategic blueprint. Mamata Banerjee is expected to release the final list of candidates for all 294 seats by this afternoon. Much like the previous election, this list from the "Grassflower" camp is highly likely to feature several new faces and hold some major surprises.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have already announced their candidates and have hit the campaign trail. To date, the CPM has finalized its candidates for 192 seats, while the BJP has done so for 144 seats. However, the BJP's candidate list has particularly captured the attention of political observers, as it features Suvendu Adhikari contesting from two high-profile constituencies: Nandigram and Bhabanipur. Notably, Bhabanipur has long been Mamata Banerjee's home constituency, whereas the electoral battle in Nandigram during the last election was the focal point of national attention.
