According to sources within the Commission, out of the more than 6 million names that remained pending following the publication of the final voter list for the state, approximately 4.3 million names have been resolved to date.

The exact number of names excluded so far remains undisclosed. However, according to information received from Election Commission of India (ECI) sources, between 44% and 46% of the names included in the supplementary lists released during the last four phases have been excluded.

The Commission published the final voter list on February 28. At that time, more than 6 million names were excluded. The Commission announced that these cases would be resolved expeditiously, and the names would subsequently be included in supplementary voter lists and published. This process commenced under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court. Several hundred judicial officers, deputed from other states, are currently involved in this verification process.

The first supplementary list was originally scheduled for release on March 20 (Friday). However, due to certain technical glitches, the release date was postponed. The first supplementary list was ultimately published on March 23. Subsequently, the Commission released the second list on the Friday of that same week, followed by the third list on Saturday. The third supplementary list includes the names of approximately 210,000 voters.

It was previously indicated that these supplementary voter lists would be published on a daily basis. According to sources within the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, the publication of supplementary lists will no longer be restricted solely to Fridays; rather, the Commission will publish a list on any given day—incorporating as many names as the judicial officers have electronically signed off on (e-signed) by that time. Consequently, lists may be released daily, or they may be published at intervals of one or two days.

According to data provided by the Commission, a total of 3.1 million names have been included across the first and second supplementary voter lists combined. The first list contained approximately 1 million names, while the second list included around 2.1 million. It remains unclear how many names have been excluded from the third list.

The state assembly elections (West Bengal Assembly Election 2026) are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and 29. Uncertainty persists regarding whether all pending names will be resolved prior to the polls; consequently, there is also uncertainty regarding the exercise of voting rights for many individuals. According to sources within the Election Commission, an individual will be eligible to cast their vote even if their name is added to the voter list just one day before the election.
