CRPF Accused of Assault, Intimidation, and Use of Force Against Voters in Nandigram! Trinamool Lodges Complaint with Election Commission, Submitting Photographic Evidence.

Sanchita Chatterjee,  BS News Agency; On Tuesday, several incidents of unrest were reported within the assembly constituency of Suvendu Adhikari. Specifically, allegations of physical assault have been leveled against personnel of the Central Forces in the Kanchanpur area of Nandigram. The Central Forces stand accused of unprovoked assault and intimidation against villagers in Nandigram. The Trinamool Congress has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission against the CRPF, submitting photographic evidence to substantiate their claims. In their letter, Trinamool alleges that the CRPF is acting at the behest of the BJP—claiming that the "Lotus Camp" (BJP) is utilizing the Central Forces for its own political ends—and demands that this practice cease immediately. As mentioned, Tuesday witnessed multiple disturbances across Suvendu Adhikari's constituency. In Kanchanpur, Nandigram, in particular, several villagers alleged that they were physically assaulted by Central Force personnel. Women from the locality staged a protest to register their objection to these incidents. A local youth named Khokon Santra stated, "I reside in Howrah for work-related purposes. I had returned home specifically to cast my vote. Before I could even comprehend what was happening, personnel from the Central Forces assaulted me." Villagers claim that four individuals sustained injuries in this incident; they subsequently received medical treatment at the Nandigram Super Specialty Hospital. In its letter to the Commission, Trinamool has detailed instances of "excessive criminal force," intimidation, and physical assault perpetrated against residents of the 210-Nandigram Assembly Constituency, noting that the Central Forces are inflicting injuries upon ordinary citizens without any provocation. The ruling party, citing the aforementioned photographs as evidence, asserts that such conduct is not merely unethical but constitutes a violation of the law. They argue that such actions are wholly unacceptable from the very personnel entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that the electoral process concludes peacefully and without hindrance. Addressing their grievance toward the ministry headed by Amit Shah—under whose jurisdiction the CRPF falls—Trinamool alleges that the BJP is blatantly misusing the CRPF for its own political advantage. In light of the events in Nandigram, Trinamool has appealed to the Election Commission to issue a show-cause notice to the CRPF, to ensure the suspension of the accused personnel, and to take measures to guarantee that such incidents do not recur in the future.
