Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Addressing journalists regarding the second phase of voting, the Chief Electoral Officer of the State Election Commission said, "From the very beginning, we have wanted people to exercise their franchise. Voter turnout in Kolkata used to be low, whereas in other states, it was higher. Although the voting percentage in the districts of this state remained high, it consistently lagged in Kolkata. We took the initiative to address this; we reached out to housing complexes, residential societies, and clubs, appealing to everyone to come forward and cast their votes." Furthermore, addressing complaints regarding tape being affixed to EVMs in Falta, he remarked, "We are receiving numerous complaints, and we are currently investigating them. A re-poll will be conducted in the specific location in Falta where the tape was found." Concluding with his views on holding the state elections in a single phase, he stated, "I will be stepping down from my post, but before I leave, I will convey to the ECI my recommendation that the elections in West Bengal be conducted in a single phase."
"I will leave, but I will tell the ECI to ensure that voting in West Bengal takes place in a single phase," stated CEO Manoj Agarwal.
