Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: On Wednesday, Samrat Choudhary took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Bihar. He becomes the state's first BJP Chief Minister. Prior to his swearing-in, he had been elected as the leader of the BJP's legislative party. Choudhary assumed the post of Chief Minister after Nitish Kumar resigned following his victory in the Rajya Sabha elections. Previously, he had served as the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister in Nitish Kumar's cabinet. Alongside Choudhary, Vijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary also took the oath as Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar. Although the BJP and the Janata Dal (United) contested the Bihar Assembly elections as part of the NDA alliance, the BJP emerged as the single largest party following a landslide victory.
Upon being elected as the legislative party leader, Choudhary met with Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and staked his claim to form the government in Bihar. Subsequently, in a post on 'X', he expressed his gratitude to the central leadership and described this responsibility as a "sacred opportunity" to serve the people of Bihar.
"I express my heartfelt gratitude to the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for placing their trust in me... To me, this is not merely a position, but a sacred opportunity to serve the people of Bihar," he added.
