Is War Now Shifting to the Streets? Militants Arming Themselves for 'Urban Warfare'; High Alert Issued Across India. '

Urban Warfare' Sleeper Cells on the Rise Across India! Intelligence Agencies Sound the Alarm.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: With strict surveillance in place along the borders, 'Urban Warfare'—or city-centric combat—has emerged as the militants' new strategic approach. Recent reports from intelligence agencies have revealed a disturbing fact: a powerful network of 'sleeper cells' has quietly cast its net across various major cities in India. What exactly constitutes 'Urban Warfare'? According to experts, the core principle of this strategy involves blending seamlessly into crowds of ordinary citizens in densely populated areas to launch guerrilla-style attacks. In recent times, it has been observed that these sleeper cells maintain contact with one another using sophisticated drone technology and encrypted messaging applications. Consequently, identifying them—concealed behind the veil of modern technology—is becoming increasingly difficult even for intelligence agencies.
Remote-Controlled Terror: According to intelligence sources, these sleeper cells are currently operating in small, decentralized modules rather than executing large-scale attacks directly. Utilizing funds and logistical support received from abroad, they are attempting to stockpile weapons and explosives at the local level. The most alarming aspect is that these individuals remain embedded within the social mainstream, making it extremely challenging for intelligence agencies to compile a specific list of suspects.
Security Bolstered: In response to this situation, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has swung into action. Alongside intensifying surveillance in metropolitan cities, 'anti-terror' units have been instructed to heighten their operational readiness. In particular, security arrangements are being comprehensively revamped at crowded markets, railway stations, and key government institutions.
Intelligence agencies fear that these sleeper cells may be planning to become active ahead of major festivals or national holidays. The general public has also been advised to remain vigilant. Citizens are requested to immediately report any unfamiliar individuals or suspicious activities they may observe to the local police. In the city's cramped alleys or high-rise apartment complexes—where does danger lurk? It is precisely to find the answer to this question that the nation's security personnel are now toiling day and night.
