Names of 5 Lakh Voters Excluded in Murshidabad! Adhir Writes to Chief Minister Demanding Tribunals in Every Block.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: In the recently concluded SIR (SIR West Bengal) process, the names of over 500,000 people from Murshidabad district alone have been excluded from the voter list. To facilitate legal recourse and the reinstatement of names for such a massive number of people, veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has written to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, appealing for the establishment of 'Appellate Tribunals' in every block of Murshidabad. In the letter—sent to the Chief Minister's Office at Nabanna on May 24—Adhir noted that the recently concluded SIR process in West Bengal has dealt its most severe blow to the district of Murshidabad. This vast number of individuals, whose names have been struck from the list, are now compelled to approach Appellate Tribunals to prove their citizenship rights and have their names reinstated in the voter list.

Citing the district's socio-economic conditions in his letter, the Congress leader wrote that Murshidabad is one of the most backward and economically disadvantaged districts in the state. The victims of this voter list fiasco are primarily individuals from the economically weaker sections of society, daily wage earners, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and ordinary citizens belonging to socially marginalized strata. To attend tribunal hearings, these destitute and helpless individuals are forced to undertake long journeys, a necessity that has resulted in extreme physical and financial hardship for them.

To provide relief to the common people from this humanitarian and administrative crisis, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has called for the direct intervention of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. He earnestly requested that the government give serious and immediate consideration to the establishment of these Appellate Tribunals in every block across Murshidabad district. Such a measure would enable the aggrieved and daily-wage-earning population to access legal and administrative assistance right in their own localities, thereby making their path to securing justice significantly easier and smoother.
