Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had announced that land would be provided for the construction of a barbed-wire fence. He stated that the land transfer would be completed within 45 days. What does the neighboring country have to say regarding the installation of barbed wire along the border? M. Humayun Kabir, the Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, asserted, "We have no fear of barbed wire." On Monday, Humayun stated that Bangladesh "does not fear barbed wire." However, he issued a warning: if killings continue along the India-Bangladesh border, Dhaka will not remain silent.
Dhaka has indicated that it will wait and see whether the West Bengal government translates its "electoral rhetoric" into actual policy. Its relationship lies primarily with the Central Government of India, not with state-level politics. Regarding the border killings, Dhaka issued a stern warning: "We will not remain silent." Speaking to journalists, Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir stated that Bangladesh would speak out whenever necessary to safeguard its national interests. He added, "Wherever it is necessary to speak, we will speak."
Humayun urged India to adopt a "more humane approach" in handling border security issues if it wishes to strengthen people-to-people ties between the two neighboring nations.
He made these remarks following Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's announcement that the West Bengal government has initiated the process of transferring land to the BSF for the installation of a barbed-wire fence along the India-Bangladesh border.
Responding to this development, Humayun stated that Bangladesh would closely observe whether the new West Bengal government transforms its "electoral rhetoric" into actual state policy.
He further added, "We do not wish to get involved in their internal politics. Our relationship lies primarily with the Central Government." At the same time, emphasizing the importance of regional peace, stability, and dialogue, he stated that, despite existing challenges, Bangladesh remains committed to maintaining constructive relations with its neighboring countries.
He further added that the leadership of both nations has expressed its commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. He expressed hope that unresolved issues would be resolved through continued dialogue.
