In reality, the outcome of an election does not depend only on religious identity. The selection of candidates, the composition of the local population, the organization of the party, alliances, voter turnout and election issues — all these play a role. West Bengal is a state of India and its governance is based on the Indian Constitution. If the political status or national boundaries of a state are to be changed, it has to be done through the constitutional process. 

In India's multi-party democracy, candidates of all religions contest elections from all parties and win. All the major parties in West Bengal, including TMC, ⁹give tickets to candidates of different communities.
