Investigators claim that a heated debate arose around an election campaign comment. After an FIR was filed in the Cyber Crime Police Station in that incident, the case was handed over to the CID. The decision to collect this voice sample has been taken to verify the truth in the investigation of the case and to confirm through audio forensics whether the voice heard in the speech is really that of the Trinamool MP or not.
On May 15, a person named Rajiv Sarkar filed a written complaint with the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station regarding Abhishek Banerjee's 'DJ comments'. The complainant claimed that the MP's comments could lead to deterioration of law and order and spread confusion among the common people. Considering the sensitivity of the incident, the state police assigned the CID to investigate the case. The detectives started investigating the incident with great importance after taking charge.
A few days ago, to take the investigation forward, the CID had summoned Trinamool's All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee to Bhavani Bhavan. There, he had to face a marathon interrogation by the investigating officers for about six and a half hours. At that time, the CID examined his statement, but now they want to send his voice sample to the examination table for the sake of the investigation. For that purpose, the investigators approached the Bidhannagar court.
During the CID's marathon interrogation, the investigators threw 10 specific questions at Abhishek Banerjee. The detectives wanted to know whether the 'DJ comment' he made in public at that election campaign rally was pre-planned or did he say it on the spur of the moment? The CID tried to find out in which specific context he made the statement and what exactly he meant by 'DJ comment'.
They also asked about the public meetings in which he made the statement and which specific political party this message was targeted at. The CID also tried to find a direct answer on whether the speech was just a political message for ordinary workers or was there an attempt to spread unrest. The detectives also questioned him about the role of the people present at that meeting.
The Trinamool MP, however, dismissed all theories of provocation during the interrogation. He claimed that there was no malicious or violent motive behind the statement he made regarding the DJ playing during Rabindra Sangeet. He made it clear to the investigators that top leaders of various parties often make various rhetorical remarks to energize the workers during elections or political campaigns. His statement was also a simple political statement.
Abhishek claimed to the CID that he used such language to boost the morale of the party's ordinary workers in the voting arena and to give them courage in the battlefield. There was no intention to provoke or create social unrest behind it. The sole purpose of his speech was to encourage political workers from a purely political platform. However, the CID is not willing to be satisfied with his verbal statement alone.
According to a section of lawyers, voice sample testing is very important to make any audio or video evidence legally strong in court. The CID basically wants to confirm whether the voice of the controversial speech that was spread on the internet or social media has been edited or distorted in any way. Abhishek's voice sample will be taken before the magistrate at the Bidhannagar court on June 30 and will later be sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory for testing.
