Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Biswajit Chatterjee is an artist who not only made history with his own career but also saw that legacy further enriched through his successor, the Padma Shri awardee Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Biswajit Chatterjee is a distinguished name in the golden era of Bengali and Hindi cinema. He is remembered not only for his acting prowess but also for leaving behind a brilliant legacy—being the father of Tollywood superstar and Padma Shri recipient Prosenjit Chatterjee. This connection adds further luster to his persona, bridging the generational gap of stardom in Bengali cinema. Born on December 14, 1936, in Kolkata, Biswajit chose acting as a profession early in life, despite his family's objections. Since his father, Ranjit Chatterjee, was a physician, venturing into an uncertain field like acting was not an easy decision. Nevertheless, driven by sheer willpower and his dreams, he made his debut in Bengali cinema and rapidly rose to fame with films such as *Mayamrig* (1960) and *Dui Bhai* (1961).

He subsequently moved to Mumbai and became an overnight star in Hindi cinema with the film *Bees Saal Baad* (1962). His romantic, heroic looks and acting style earned him the popular "chocolate-boy" image of that era. He did not limit himself to acting alone; in 1975, he also sought to establish himself as a producer and director with the film *Kehte Hain Mujhko Raja*, which featured major stars like Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, and Rekha.
