Metro to run less during Muharram, services cut on Blue, Yellow, Green lines! Changes in Friday timetable

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Along with these cuts in Metro rail services during the holiday, there are also major changes in traffic on EM Bypass, one of the busiest roads in the city. The Chingrihata Flyover will be completely closed for two periods this June and next July for the construction of the Metro. Next Friday is the holy Muharram. Several important changes are going to be made in public transport and traffic during the holiday. On the one hand, the authorities have decided to reduce the trips of the Metro (Kolkata Metro Service) keeping in mind the low number of passengers during the holiday, on the other hand, traffic will be closed on the Chingrihata Flyover, which is important for the work of the Metro itself, for two periods. However, despite these changes in the Metro and traffic routes, no change is being made in the timings of the first and last trains of the Metro for the convenience of the passengers.

According to the notification of the metro authority, the number of daily trains will be reduced on the Blue Line, Yellow Line and Green Line next Friday. However, the good news is that there will be no change in the services on the Orange and Purple Lines; trains will run as usual there like on other days.
Let's take a look at the main changes in the metro services on Friday: Blue Line: 216 trains will run on this route on Friday instead of 260 on other days.

Yellow Line: 92 trains will run on this line instead of 120 trains daily. In addition, only 4 direct services will be available on this line instead of 7 direct services from Jai Hind Airport to Shaheed Khudiram on that day.

Green Line: 186 trips will run on this section instead of 228 trips daily.

Along with this cut in metro rail services on holidays, there will also be a big change in traffic on EM Bypass, one of the busiest roads in the city. The Chingrihata flyover will be completely closed in two phases this June and next July for the construction of the metro. This strict decision has been taken to ensure public safety and avoid any untoward incident.

Flyover closure schedule:

First phase: All traffic will be closed on this flyover from 8 pm on Friday this month to 8 pm on the following Monday.

Second phase: The Chingrihata flyover will be closed for the second phase from 8 pm on July 3 to 8 am on July 6.

Naturally, due to the reduced number of metro trains during the holidays and the closure of the Chingrihata flyover, people are advised to take some extra time when traveling to Kolkata during the weekend and early week. It is advised to use alternative routes as per the instructions of the traffic police to avoid the possibility of traffic jams, especially in the areas adjacent to the EM Bypass.
