Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Rather than as their party leader, Ritabrata Banerjee—an MLA expelled from the Trinamool Congress—wishes to have Mamata Banerjee by his side in the capacity of an advisor. He is not alone in this sentiment; other rebel MLAs within the Trinamool camp have echoed this very same tune. Today, Wednesday, MLA Ritabrata Banerjee was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. Immediately thereafter, Ritabrata—along with the other rebel MLAs—held a press conference to clarify their stance. Speaking on the matter, Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata stated: "It is not a case of 'some are leaders, others are servants.' For the time being, we constitute a group of 58 MLAs who were elected under the Trinamool symbol. We, and we alone, constitute the principal opposition bloc in the Legislative Assembly. There are two additional members who have pledged their support to us; consequently, our total strength will rise to 60. I wish to make one point absolutely clear: our leader remains Mamata Banerjee. It is our desire that she serve as our advisor—that she guide our legislative party. Her presence among us will enable us to perform our duties effectively. Abhishek Banerjee bears absolutely no connection—however remote—to the 18th Legislative Assembly."
