Harry Kane surpasses Pele

Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: Despite falling behind in the first half, Harry Kane's magic helped England reach the last 16 with a 2-1 win over DR Congo. In addition to saving the team with a brace in the match, the Bayern Munich striker took himself to new heights. Harry Kane equalized the team with a goal in the 75th minute of the match against Congo. By taking his total to 12 goals, he reached the same position as Brazilian legend Pele's World Cup goalscoring record. Earlier, Kane broke Gary Lineker's record by scoring in a 2-0 win over Panama in the group stage and became the country's top scorer in the World Cup. He reached another new milestone.

Brazilian legend Pele scored 12 goals in just 16 World Cup matches and is the only player in history to win three World Cup titles (in 1958, 1962 and 1970). Kane has scored 19 goals for England in major international tournaments. He is already the top scorer with 83 goals in 117 appearances. Harry Kane's tally of goals at the World Cup now stands at 13. He won the Golden Boot with six goals in England's run to the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup and needs just two more to reach that tally. The match against DR Congo was Kane's 15th appearance for England.

He was in the starting eleven—the most by an outfield player in the England men's team. This took his total for club and country this season to 71.
