Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: A terrible flood situation has arisen in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, as the water level of the Mandakini river has started flowing 9 meters above the danger level. The strong current of the river has washed away several bridges and roads, completely cutting off all the main road connections with the outside of the district. Breaking all the records of 2003, the water level of the Mandakini has reached 135 meters in the Ramghat area instead of the prescribed 126 meters. To deal with the situation, an extreme alert has been issued in Markundi, Manikpur and Karvi police stations. Two special helicopters and divers have been deployed along with boats to rescue people trapped in temples and submerged houses on the banks of the Mandakini. Train traffic is being run at a very slow speed in Chitrakoot Dham station and Manikpur-Satna section. The Commissioner and DIG of Chitrakoot Dham are supervising the rescue work from the spot and the common people have been instructed to stay away from the river area.
