East Bengal FC Edge SC Delhi on Penalties to Reach 135th IndianOil Durand Cup Final

Sanchita chatterjee BS News Agency Kolkata, August 19, 2026: East Bengal FC booked their place in the final of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup after defeating Sporting Club Delhi on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time in the first semi-final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Wednesday.

The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to find the breakthrough. The tense encounter eventually went to a penalty shootout, where East Bengal held their nerve to secure a 5-4 victory and a place in the final.

East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill was the standout performer for the Red and Gold Brigade. He had already played a crucial role during regulation time, denying Rodriguinho from the penalty spot and keeping East Bengal in the contest.

Gill once again proved decisive during the shootout, saving Juan Sebastian Peña’s penalty and giving East Bengal the advantage. Mohamad Basim Rashid then stepped up to convert the decisive spot-kick, sealing East Bengal FC’s passage to the Durand Cup final.

The victory capped a determined performance from East Bengal, who remained composed throughout a closely fought semi-final despite SC Delhi’s efforts to break the deadlock.

East Bengal FC will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and NorthEast United FC. The second semi-final is scheduled to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on August 20, 2026.

With a place in the final secured, East Bengal will now await their opponents as they look to finish their Durand Cup campaign with the prestigious trophy.
