Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: *⚖️ The Supreme Court has proposed two exclusive Special Courts in Guwahati to speed up trials linked to the 2023 Manipur ethnic violence — one for CBI cases and another for NIA cases.*
* *The Court expressed concern over the slow pace of proceedings, noting that the CBI has cited 904 witnesses across its chargesheets, but only 13 have been examined so far, leaving 891 witnesses pending.*
* *According to the status placed before the Court, the CBI has completed investigations in 27 of 31 cases, filing chargesheets in 22 and closure reports in five. The NIA has filed chargesheets in 15 of its 30 cases, while investigations continue in the remaining cases.*
* *The Supreme Court has requested the Gauhati High Court to examine the creation of dedicated courts that would hear the Manipur cases on a day-to-day basis without handling other regular criminal matters.*
