After lying unused for a long time, the Naihati Bus Terminus is now going to be developed as an important transport hub. The state transport department has taken the initiative to launch long-distance bus services to popular destinations like Siliguri, Digha and Puri in Odisha from this terminus soon. If the service is launched, not only the residents of Naihati, Bhatpara and Kanchrapara, but also tourists and pilgrims will benefit. This big bus terminus was built in Naihati during the previous government's tenure. But since it was not used for a long time, the terminus premises turned into a place to store construction materials. Now the state government has taken the initiative to change that image. A plan has been taken to develop Naihati as an important transport hub. Already, about 10 AC bus services have been started from Naihati to Joka. Now long-distance buses are going to be added to it. It is also known that the transport department has started the approval process to run buses from Naihati to Siliguri, Digha and Puri.
*It is reported that services on new routes can be started only after the administrative process is completed. The historical importance of Naihati is also associated with this initiative. According to sources in the transport department, this plan is to make Naihati, which is associated with the memory of literary emperor Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, more attractive to tourists. Keeping in mind the historical connection of Bankim Chandra with ‘Vande Mataram’, there is a plan to promote Naihati as an important tourist destination at the national level.
*If the new bus service is launched, it will be much easier to come to Naihati directly from Siliguri in North Bengal, Digha in South Bengal or Puri in Odisha. Tourists will be able to visit Bankim Chandra’s house and museum as well as the traditional Barama temple in Naihati. Keeping in mind the convenience of long-distance passengers, there are also plans to build a modern passenger waiting hall, toilets and seating arrangements at the bus terminus.
*If the infrastructure of this terminus, located next to the Kalyani Expressway, is developed, it is believed that Naihati will become one of the important transport hubs of North 24 Parganas in the future.
