Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: The National Sub-Junior (Under 13) 2026 Badminton Tournament was inaugurated in a festive mood. Many talented shuttlers from different parts of the country have come to Kolkata to participate in this tournament at Harinavir Star Badminton Academy.
A total of 464 competitors from 28 states and 5 union territories of the country are participating in this ranking tournament. There are 261 boys and 203 girls competitors. 90 are representing Bengal. The total prize money of the tournament is 6 lakh taka.
The winning contestants of the singles in the boys and girls categories will receive 72 thousand taka each. The runners-up will receive 36 thousand taka each. The semi-finalists will receive 28 thousand taka. The quarter-finalists will receive 24 thousand taka. The winning pair of doubles in both categories will receive 76 thousand taka. The runners-up pair will receive 36 thousand taka. Semi-finalists will get 28 thousand taka.
Indian badminton legend Chetan Anand, State Badminton Association Secretary Shekhar Biswas, State Badminton Association President Ushanath Banerjee, 'Bhumi' artist Surjit Chatterjee were present at the opening ceremony of the tournament.
The semi-finals of the competition will be held on September 15. The final will be held on September 16 from 10:30 am.
