Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar took a dig at the Trinamool's move and said that once upon a time, Trinamool used to make fun of them whenever the BJP approached the Governor. He told reporters, "When we were in opposition, we were severely attacked by the Trinamool. We used to go to the Governor and we were made fun of. At that time, the post of Governor or the Governor was mocked. And look, today, the same Trinamool Congress is going to the Governor." This reaction has come in the wake of the recent political uproar over the theft of documents and attacks in the state.
Rahul Sinha
BJP MP Rahul Sinha has made serious allegations against Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He claims that the theft drama was staged to destroy evidence and the request to meet the President is actually an attempt to divert attention. Rahul Sinha alleged, "Abhishek Banerjee himself got the files and documents stolen to destroy the evidence. It was done on his orders. He has sought time to meet the President to divert attention from the situation. But the police will investigate this incident... then you will see that Abhishek Banerjee himself committed this theft to destroy the evidence."
Locket Chatterjee
BJP state general secretary Locket Chatterjee has dismissed the allegations of BJP's involvement in the incident. According to him, it is the result of internal conflicts within the Trinamool. Locket said, "I do not believe that any Bharatiya Janata Party worker is involved in this incident. The Trinamool party has been divided. Their own people are attacking them. The Trinamool is finished, now they are just trying to garner sympathy."
Trinamool's request
Earlier on Thursday, the Trinamool Congress wrote to President Draupadi Murmu and West Bengal Governor R. N. Ravi seeking an urgent meeting. The request was said to be to discuss the deterioration of law and order in the state and the "planned misuse" of the police after the attack on the Camac Street office. Trinamool MP Derek O'Brien told reporters that the letters were sent on Thursday morning. A delegation wants to meet the President in Delhi and the Governor in Kolkata separately. Derek said, "In this situation, we have written to the President of India and the Governor of West Bengal. A delegation of the Trinamool Congress wants to meet on an urgent basis to discuss the worrying situation in Bengal." The Trinamool leader alleged that the situation has gradually deteriorated over the last four months. Party workers are being targeted and party offices are being vandalized. He said, "What happened this morning is open anarchy. Watch the video footage of 4:30 am. The situation has been going from bad to worse for the last 4 months. Police across the state are targeting Trinamool workers. Party offices are being vandalized." He further alleged that the police are not following any rules and are working in a politically biased manner. Derek alleged, "The police are not following any rules. The police are openly... working like BJP cadres. There is utter anarchy going on here."
Abhishek's allegation
Trinamool All India General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee had alleged that BJP workers entered his office in Camac Street in Kolkata with weapons on Thursday morning. They vandalized office furniture, beat up workers and destroyed electronic equipment. Abhishek alleged that despite repeated calls and emails from party workers and lawyers, the Kolkata Police did not respond for almost two hours. Calling the incident a "blatant disregard for the rule of law," he demanded the arrest of the culprits.
