In a case related to the Jantar Mantar protest, the two leaders gave a written assurance to the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court on Wednesday that they will not engage in any activity that can disturb the peace. Expressing faith in the judiciary, they assured the court that their protests in the coming days will be conducted within the ambit of the Constitution and the law.
In the case, the Delhi Police today applied for an extension of the judicial custody of the two leaders for another three days. However, the court said that a bond and a written undertaking are sufficient to maintain peace. There is no need to keep them in detention for now. After that, the court ordered their release. Hearing of the Special Executive Magistrate:
Recently, the two CJP leaders approached the Delhi High Court challenging the extension of the judicial custody. The High Court did not agree to hear it today. The High Court questioned why the petitioners approached the Delhi High Court directly without seeking alternative legal avenues and waiting for the hearing of the Special Executive Magistrate. According to sources, Saurabh and Ashutosh withdrew their petition from the High Court immediately after that. Later, the Special Executive Magistrate ordered the release of Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
"I will not do anything that disturbs the peace.."
In his written assurance given to the court, Ashutosh Ranka said that he will not do anything that disturbs the peace. He also said that he has full faith in the judiciary and all its branches, including the SEM court. Ranka also explained his commitment to maintaining peace, law and order and public order. At the same time, Ashutosh's message in his written message said that he will not announce any protest at Jantar Mantar until the protest venue is approved as per the law and all future protests will be conducted within the ambit of the Constitution. Saurabh Das also gave the same assurance to the court:
CJP leader Saurabh Das also gave the same written assurance to the court. In his message, he said that he will not indulge in any act that disturbs the peace and that he has full faith in the judiciary. Saurabh also expressed his commitment to maintaining peace and law and order. According to their written message to the court, the law will be followed regarding the protest at Jantar Mantar and no future protests will be outside the ambit of the Constitution. This written assurance given by both the leaders has been included in the court documents.
