'Dirty politics...', Humayun son follows father's path, makes 'big' announcement before Rejinagar by-election results

BS News Agency: Humayun Kabir, who was 'humiliated' by being 'harassed' by the police during the by-election in Rejinagar assembly constituency on Tuesday, has announced that he will never attend a session of the state assembly again while Shuvendu Adhikari is the Chief Minister. Along with this, the veteran politician has also hinted at withdrawing from active politics. Within hours of his father's decision, Aam Janata Unnayan Party candidate in Rejinagar by-election and Humayun Kabir's son, Golam Nabi Azad Robin, announced his withdrawal from active politics. Incidentally, Robin had announced yesterday that he would not go to the counting centre in Berhampur on October 9, the day of counting of votes.

Speaking to Aajkal Dot In on Wednesday afternoon, Humayun's son said, "I don't want to be a part of this dirty politics anymore. However, my decision has nothing to do with my father's announcement. I have been saying repeatedly since yesterday that I don't want to be a part of dirty politics. The way the vote was held in Rejinagar yesterday is not a sign of a healthy democracy." However, Robin is not ready to think about how much impact the decision of father and son to withdraw from active politics together will have on the future of Humayun's founded Aam Janata Unnayan Party. He said, "The future will tell what the future of the party will be. However, a message has already been sent to my party workers. I have requested everyone to maintain peace and order. It is possible to 'fight' and 'fight' with all political parties for ideological reasons. But it is not possible to survive by 'fighting' with the police administration or law enforcement agencies day after day." Robin further said, "When a common man is in trouble, he will go to the police. But if the police start slapping people for going to vote, where will the people go? It is impossible for a common man to fight the police. What is happening to me today is being watched by others, in the future the same thing will happen to others, then I will watch. As a result, this society will lose its backbone."

Golam Nabi Azad, former Public Works Director of Beldanga-2 Panchayat Samiti and currently one of the members of that Panchayat Samiti, said, "I do not know whether I will ever participate in any work of the Panchayat Samiti in the future. I have repeatedly said that I do not agree to be a part of this dirty politics. I now want to step away from dirty politics 'a little'."

However, Humayun Putra did not clearly state for how long he will be 'voluntarily' retiring from politics. He said, "I have not thought about this issue yet. I cannot fight with the police. I will think about returning to politics the day people can exercise their democratic rights." Robin said, "I have never actively come face to face with politics before. I had to come forward and actively do politics only for the by-election. Now I will give time to my family, I have a little daughter and spend time with her. Many people have placed their trust in my father. I became a candidate in the Rejinagar by-election to repay that trust."

He also said, "We are a very small political party. If the police 'target' a party like ours, then it is not possible for us to do politics anymore. I cannot put my local people or supporters in danger for my political interests."
