Later, her husband Tejpal Rajput filed a complaint and said that the incident took place at a notary's office when they were finalizing the marriage papers. He alleged that his wife's family members came to the spot and attacked him and kidnapped his wife. The authorities have registered a case and started an investigation. Both the newlyweds are residents of Chaigaon Makhan village.
However, Tanjim was traced and returned to her husband on October 27. According to her statement in the court, she wanted to stay with her husband and did not want to take any action against her parents. She was then allowed to leave with Tejpal. Earlier, her family had filed a missing person complaint.
Their wedding ceremony was completed at the Mahadevgarh temple around 11 am on the day of the incident, after which the couple went to the notary's office. In a video, Tanjim said, "I am an adult and capable of taking my own decisions. I came with Tejpal of my own free will. We are now married. There was no force or pressure on me. I am very happy with him." She added, "I want to tell my family that Tejpal's family should not be harassed by involving the police. I came with him of my own free will, so please do not create any problems for his family because of me." Tejpal said that she first met Tanjim five years ago and they developed a romantic relationship. On February 20 this year, they decided to live together with mutual consent. They collected the necessary legal documents related to their live-in relationship, which were formally executed in an Indore court.
Temple superintendent Ashok Paliwal said that the couple had entered into the marriage of their own free will and had been in a live-in relationship for some time, after which they decided to take this step. According to him, they had gone to a notary office in the Malikuan area to prepare the necessary documents after the wedding. However, the girl's family, upon learning of the matter, tried to separate them, which he called "injustice" towards them.
Tejpal, a member of Hindu organisations, went to the Kotwali police station with Paliwal. He submitted copies of the Indore court documents, an affidavit and photos and videos of their marriage. Concerns were raised about Tanjim's security and there were also suspicions that he might be pressured to file false charges against the young man. Members of Hindu organizations also protested in front of the police control room, raising slogans, and submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, demanding that Tanjim be rescued before she is reunited with her husband and action be taken against the culprits.
