"Inclusion of Sports in Education Is Important" Deepa Malik
Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata: In a sports awareness event held in Kolkata, Padma Shri awardee Deepa Malik, para-swimmer Rimo Saha, and ex-East Bengal footballer Alvito D'Cunha urged students to embrace sports for better health, mental well-being, and career growth.
The speakers emphasized making sports a key part of education, not just an add-on. “Sports build character, discipline, and open global opportunities,” said D'Cunha, while Rimo Das spoke on its role in building confidence.
Deepa Malik highlighted India’s growing presence in para-sports, noting the country will host the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in New Delhi with 1,000+ athletes from 100 countries. “It’s a proud moment and a step toward greater inclusion,” she said. The event will also act as a qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
The event was organized by the Education Board of Vocational Training and Development.
