Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav Inaugurates the Boys' hostel at the National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH), Kolkata.
Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata 16.07.2025: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ayush and Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, today inaugurated the Boys' hostel for the undergraduate students at the National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH), Salt Lake, Kolkata. The Union Minister of State for Education, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar was also present at the event along with Member of Parliament, Purulia, Shri Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato.
Addressing the event, the Union Minister (MoHFW) noted that NIH signifies quality education, student training and growth of homeopathy medicinal science. The OPD (Outdoor Patient Department) and IPD (Indoor Patient Department) cater to patients from across the country. More than 3000 patients visit the campus every day for treatment. He promised on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee (10 December) this year, a Centre of Excellence status will be conferred after assessment. He stated that the Government is upgrading NIH's infrastructure in a time-bound manner to provide better healthcare facilities to the people. The AYUSH Ministry is promising overall development of NIH. He added that the boys' hostel is a milestone towards the 'Vikasit Bharat' dream of the Prime Minister.
Addressing the audience, the Union Minister of State for Education lauded the institution for providing affordable healthcare facilities to needy people. He reemphasised the government's commitment to establishing NIH as a prominent brand in homeopathy research and development. He also stated that NIH aligns with the need for an interdisciplinary approach as mentioned in the National Education Policy 2020. He congratulated the NIH students from various parts of the country on contributing to the fulfilment of the Prime Minister's vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat'.
The NIH was established on 10th December 1975 as an autonomous organisation under the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The mission of the organisation is to foster excellence in Homoeopathic Medical Education and Research, to educate and train undergraduate in accordance with highest professional standards and ethical values unfettered by the barriers of nationality, language, culture, plurality, religion and to meet the healthcare needs of the community through dissemination of knowledge and service.
