Celebration of 12th Year Kanyashree Divas.
Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata: "Kanyashree Prakalpa", a flagship initiative of the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal, continues to transform the lives of adolescent girls across the state. Launched in 2013 the scheme has inspired and empowered over 93 lakh girls to pursue higher education and professional aspirations with confidence.
In keeping with tradition, 14th August 2025 will be observed as "Kanyashree Day" in Kolkata and all Districts. This year's theme, "Career Awareness", highlights the importance of informed career choices and future planning for young women.
In Kolkata, the State Level observance will take place at the "Dhono Dhanya" Auditorium at 12 noon.Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, will grace the occasion with her presence.Hon'ble Ministers, eminent persons and senior officials will also be present. The audience will include Kanyashree girls from educational institutions across the city.The event will open with the 'Kanyashree' theme song, presented by four schools of Kolkata, AIWC Buniadi Bidyapith, Kamala Girls School, Binodini Girls High School and Lake School for Girls.The programme will formally inaugurated with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. A symbolic 'Sandesh-Cake' will be cut on stage to mark the 12th Birthday of the Kanyashree Prakalpa. To align with the theme of the day, a flyer and booklet on career planning will be unveiled. The Kanyashree Prakalpa Annual Report 2024-25 will also be released, showcasing the impact of the scheme and its progress over the past year. As part of the annual tradition,
The top 5 performing districts of West Bengal namely Bankura, Purba Burdwan, Paschim Burdwan, Jhargram and Uttar Dinajpur will be awarded for excellence in implementing the scheme.
Three schools and three colleges of Kolkata will be felicitated for their good work in implementing Kanyashree Prakalpa. The schools are Barisha Girls high School, Behala Sarada Vidyapith for Girls, Uccho Balika Vidyamandir for Girls, Bangabashi College, Vivekananda College for Women and Asutosh College.
38 currently enrolled Kanyashree beneficiaries with outstanding accomplishments in fields like sports, education, art and culture, social responsibilities in the past year will also be felicitated. 12 Kanyashree recipients who have successfully transitioned into professional roles will be honoured for their achievements.
Simultaneously, each district across West Bengal will host its own Kanyashree Day ent, celebrating: Outstanding Kanyashree girls for their achievements, Schools and colleges for exemplary implementation of the scheme during 2024-25, Organising seminar/discussion on career options for adolescent girls for effective future planning.
