Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata:‌ Starfall in Indian sports world. Olympic bronze-winning Indian hockey team star Dr. Ves Page passed away. He had been suffering from age-related problems for some time. He breathed his last in Kolkata on Wednesday midnight. Ves Page, one of the fathers of sports medicine, was 80 years old. Following his path, his son Leander Page created history by winning bronze in tennis at the Olympics. It is very rare for a father and son to win medals at the Olympics.

Ves Page was born in Goa in 1945. He had a penchant for sports since childhood. He was not only famous in hockey, but was also equally skilled in divisional cricket, rugby, and football. However, winning the bronze medal for the Indian hockey team at the 1972 Munich Olympics brought him special respect and recognition at the national and international levels. Because of his love for rugby, he was the president of the Indian Rugby Football Union from 1996 to 2002.

After coming to Kolkata and completing his medical degree, Ves Page became an expert in sports medicine. Keeping his role in this field in mind, he was always busy in Indian cricket, football, tennis, hockey and other sports. Even his contribution to the Asian Cricket Council, BCCI, and the Anti-Doping Education Program is undeniable.

Apart from people from the hockey world, various sports lovers have expressed deep grief over Ves Page's death.
