Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency Kolkata: Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Kolkata hosted its 21st Annual Senior School Sports Meet on 21st  December 2025 at Geetanjali Stadium with zeal and elation.

The honourable Chief Guest gracing the event was the renowned sportsperson,  Mr Alvito D Cunha. Mr D Cunha was a former member of the Indian national football team and represented India in the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.  The  event was attended by Shri Ashim Biswas, also a famous football player, as Guest of Honour.

The grand event began with exhilaration and exuberance as the Principal, Smt. Joyoti Chaudhuri, extended a warm welcome to each and every one present . She stressed on how sports shapes one’s character. This was followed by the Welcome Song, ‘Cup of Life’ by the senior school choir which made it clear to all present that this Sports Meet is a passionate celebration of the indomitable human spirit which strides, sprints and jumps to succeed despite all odds. The Flag Hoisting ceremony and Lighting of the Torch marked important elements of the Opening Ceremony. One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was  the spectacular and well-coordinated March Past led by the members of the School Council.  They were followed by the contingents of the six Houses namely, Chenab, Ganga, Jhelum, Kaveri, Narmada, and Teesta. Marching by, next, in their imposing and crisp uniforms was the contingent of NCC. Amidst wonder and amazement, the balloons were released into the clear winter sky symbolically declaring the Sports meet open.
The track and field events began with much enthusiasm and a discernible competitive spirit could be felt not only among the participants but also parents and friends who had gathered to cheer and celebrate the efforts of the budding athletes. ‘Flat Races’, ‘Relay Races’, ‘Hurdles’, ‘Shot-Put’ and ‘Tug of War’ were some of the track and field events that enraptured the spectators and the euphoric celebration at the end of each race sent everyone into a frenzy. Each competitor sought to break records set by their predecessors and some even broke their own records which had been set in the previous years. The show events included Karate and Aerobics displays. The Karate students from Classes 7-12 performed a Karate demonstration. They showcased basic techniques such as chest punch, Kata and Sunbon Kumite. They also displayed a pyramid formation and concluded their display with the breaking of tiles. The event moved on with an energetic and vibrant Aerobics performance by the students of Classes 7 and 8 who demonstrated the true power of rhythm and fitness.
The Sports Meet came to a celebratory close by honouring the accomplishments of the participants in the prize distribution ceremony which was followed by the vote of thanks. The event was not only a resounding success but proved to be an exemplary show of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
