Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News, Agency: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP of attempting to undermine and effectively eliminate the Indian Constitution, alleging that it threatens the principles of equality among citizens, states, languages, and religions. Speaking at the Hertie School in Berlin, he claimed the BJP has captured India’s institutional framework—such as the electoral system, CBI, and ED—and is using these institutions as tools to consolidate political power.

In a video released by the Congress, Gandhi described Indian democracy as a “global public good,” asserting that any attack on it is not just an Indian issue but a threat to democracy worldwide. He said the Opposition is not merely fighting the BJP electorally but is building a system of resistance against what he called the “weaponisation” of institutions.

Gandhi alleged serious flaws in the electoral process, claiming Congress clearly won the Haryana election and that the Maharashtra election was unfair. He criticised enforcement agencies, accusing them of selectively targeting opposition leaders while sparing BJP members.

On the economy, he argued that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continued and exhausted the economic model initiated under Manmohan Singh, claiming it has now reached a dead end. He also said the INDIA bloc is united in opposing the ideology of the RSS, despite tactical differences among alliance partners, and stressed that opposition unity is evident in Parliament when contesting laws they oppose.
