Sanchita
Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata: An exceptional art exhibition, ‘Courage in
Canvas’, has begun this week in Kolkata.
This exhibition captures the artistic representation of various moods,
emotions, and expressions of Mamata Banerjee, the Honorable Chief Minister of
West Bengal, on canvas. The exhibition will run from December 16 to December
21, 2025, daily from 3 PM to 8 PM, at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture,
Southern Avenue.
This
exhibition is designed to pay tribute to leadership through the lens of
creativity. The paintings presented in ‘Courage in Canvas’ transcend the
boundaries of conventional portraiture.
In some, there is self-reflection, in others, unwavering conviction,
empathy, and in yet others, a defiant note of protest—the artist has attempted
to capture the feelings of the moment through a blend of colors, forms, and
atmosphere. This results in a multi-layered narrative that portrays not just a
political identity, but a personality shaped by emotions, beliefs, and cultural
sensibilities.
Mamata
Banerjee's deep connection with art, poetry, and literature, alongside
politics, is well-known. She has often resorted to creative expression to
convey personal insights and connect with the common people. This exhibition
brings to the forefront this aspect—where a silent yet profound connection
between governance and culture becomes evident, and art makes public life more
humane.
The
concept and execution of this exhibition are the work of artist Santanu
Banerjee. The main strength of his artistic language lies in emotionally
charged realism and expression. Through subtle brushstrokes and restrained use
of color, he has sought to give visible form to mental states, allowing viewers
to find their own meaning in each painting.
For
art enthusiasts, those interested in cultural pursuits, and the general public,
‘Courage in Canvas’ promises to be a thought-provoking and insightful
experience. Over these six days, the
city will witness a unique dialogue between art, leadership, and identity.
