TRAI Organises Consumer Outreach Programme at GMIT, Baruipur.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency, Kolkata, 05 February, 2026: As a part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard consumer interests and enhance consumer awareness, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) organised a Consumer Outreach Programme (COP) today at Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT), Baruipur, South 24 Parganas. The programme focused on 'Quality of Service' and consumer protection in the telecom sector.

The event witnessed participation from members of the public, representatives of all Telecom Service Providers, and a panel of distinguished guests. Dr. Nibedita Mukhopadhyay Banik, Registrar, GMIT, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Shri Shubhendu Chakraborty, Cyber Expert, Cyber Centre of Excellence, West Bengal, attended as Special Guest.

Welcoming the participants, Shri Ashim Dutta, Joint Advisor, TRAI, Regional Office, Kolkata, outlined the legislative framework governing telecom services in India and highlighted TRAI’s role and responsibilities in protecting consumer interests. Participants were sensitised on consumer-centric regulations relating to Value Added Services, Unsolicited Commercial Communications, Mobile Number Portability, complaint redressal, tariffs and data services, along with the use of TRAI mobile applications and portals for consumer empowerment.

Presentations were also made on cyber fraud prevention and the Department of Telecommunications’ Sanchar Saathi portal, covering tools such as Chakshu, CEIR and TAFCOP. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which queries from participants were addressed by officials from TRAI and Telecom Service Providers.
