He conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. Rahul Gandhi asserted that, in the current climate of West Bengal, an atmosphere of terror—rather than democracy—has taken root. He further alleged that, in the aftermath of the elections, systematic attempts involving intimidation, physical attacks, and elimination are being made to stifle dissenting voices within the opposition.
