Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha is joining the BJP. In a press conference held today, he announced his resignation from the Aam Aadmi Party. Raghav further stated that two-thirds of AAP's MPs would be joining the BJP. He asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party has completely deviated from the ideals and core values upon which it was founded. Explaining his stance, he remarked, "I am leaving the Aam Aadmi Party and moving towards the people." In a witty and candid observation, Raghav Chadha described himself as "the right person in the wrong party." He explained that he felt stifled within the party, as its current avatar no longer aligns with its foundational principles. Chadha stated that more than two-thirds of AAP's Rajya Sabha MPs are standing with them and have already signed on.
Reports suggest that several leaders—including Harbhajan Singh, Swati Maliwal, Rajendra Gupta, Sandeep Pathak, Vikramjit Sahney, and Ashok Mittal—are joining the BJP alongside Chadha. AAP currently holds 10 seats in the Rajya Sabha, with seven MPs representing Punjab and three representing Delhi.
'The Right Person in the Wrong Party'
Addressing a press conference alongside Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal, AAP MP Raghav Chadha stated, "We have decided that we—comprising two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha—will merge with the BJP by invoking the provisions of the Constitution of India." He further added, "The AAP—which I nurtured with my blood and sweat, and to which I dedicated 15 years of my youth—has now strayed from its principles, values, and core ethics. This party no longer serves the national interest; instead, it operates for personal gain. Over the past few years, I have felt that I was the right person in the wrong party. Therefore, I announce today that I am dissociating myself from the AAP and moving closer to the people."
