Bibhash Lodh, BS News Agency: Jahangir submitted a plea requesting, "I should be informed of the exact number of cases filed against me. Cases are being lodged regarding incidents that occurred as far back as nine years ago. Three cases have been filed within the span of a single day. The police are filing these FIRs solely due to a shift in the political landscape." Jahangir Khan, the Trinamool candidate from Falta, received a measure of relief. He had approached the Calcutta High Court seeking 'protective cover' against potential arrest. He alleged that several false First Information Reports (FIRs) had been lodged against him. On Monday, Jahangir moved a petition before the bench of Justice Sougata Bhattacharyya. The High Court directed that the police are barred from taking any coercive action against Jahangir until May 26. However, the court stipulated that he must extend full cooperation to the authorities. The court further clarified that this order does not constitute a stay on the investigation itself. The police are restrained from taking action only in respect of those specific cases that have already been filed against him. Furthermore, Jahangir Khan is required to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission; specifically, he is prohibited from issuing threats to voters or any other individuals. Advocate Kishore Datta represented Jahangir Khan in court during the proceedings. During his arguments, the counsel highlighted that the police were filing a succession of cases against his client. In his plea seeking protection against the lodged cases, Jahangir cited the precedent set by the case involving Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari; in 2021, the court had granted protective cover to the then-Leader of the Opposition.
