Virat Kohli Creates History, Becomes 1st Indian Cricketer.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Virat Kohli entered his name in the history books on Wednesday (May 13) by becoming the first Indian cricketer to score 14,000 runs in T20s . Kohli, who is playing his 426th T20 match on Wednesday, needed 78 runs to take his tally to 14,000 runs in the 20-over format of the game, and he scored his 78th run on the third ball of the 16th over of RCB's innings in their IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. The record of scoring most runs in T20s is held by Chris Gayle. Gayle played 463 T20 matches from 2005 to 2022 and amassed a total of 14,562 runs. In the list of batters with most runs in T20s, Gayle is followed by former West Indies teammate Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, David Warner and Jos Buttler.
While Pollard has scored 14,482 runs in 735 matches, Hales has amassed a total of 14,449 runs in 528 matches, and Warner and Buttler have scored 14,284 and 14,200 runs so far. 
Kohli needed 409 innings to reach the 14,000-run mark in T20s. He is the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in T20s. The previous record of being the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in T20s was in the name of Chris Gayle.
Gayle, who tops the list of batters with the most runs in T20s, scored his 14,000th T20 run in the 423rd innings.
In the list of Indian batters with most runs in T20s, Kohli is followed by Rohit Sharma. Rohit, who is part of Mumbai Indians' IPL 2026 squad, has amassed a total of 12,491 runs in 469 matches.
Rohit, who will play his 279th IPL match on Thursday (May 14), has hammered 1131 fours and 564 sixes in T20s. He tops the list of Indian batters with the most sixes in the 20-over format of the game.
