On this day, the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Amendment Bill 2026 was introduced in the assembly to stop hooliganism and extortion in the state. While speaking in support of that bill, Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari raised the issue of increasing power of criminals in politics. The Chief Minister said, 'There was no such degradation in the politics of the state. Criminals were imported into politics by the CPM. These did not exist before 1999. In 2000, Gurudas Dasgupta lost to Vikram Sarkar in the Pashkura Lok Sabha seat. After that, there were rumors that the government would change in 2001. To counter that public opinion, the wind of change, organized Harmad Bahinis were created in each district. Which were led by Abhay Babu of Goghat, Mozammel Babu of Arambagh, Laxman Babu of Haldia, Sushant Babu of Garbeta, and Amiya Babu of Bankura. I don't want to make them famous by name. Now they have become a calendar.' After this, the Chief Minister said without naming CPM MLA Mostafizur Rana, although a gentleman has won from Domkal.
Mostafizur Rahman, who is also known as Rana, has won as the only CPM MLA in the state from Domkal. Soon after becoming an MLA, the CPM MLA from Domkal met Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari to demand justice for the mother of Tamanna Khatun, a victim of political violence in Krishnaganj, the family of Anis Khan from Howrah, and the son of Devprasad Das and Usharani Das, a couple who were burnt alive for being CPM members in Kakdwip. After that meeting, the police arrested almost all the accused in Tamanna Khatun's murder. The accused in the Kakdwip incident were also arrested after a gap of almost 8 years. However, the Chief Minister has not only blamed the CPM or Left rule, but also the Trinamool rule for the deterioration of law and order in the state and the destruction of government property in the name of protests. The Chief Minister alleged that the family of Hargobinda Das, who once voted for the Hammer, Sickle and Star in this state, has had to pay the price for the incidents that have happened in this state since 2019. As a result, government property, railway tracks, roads, government offices, private business centers, and residential areas have all been turned into ruins. The Chief Minister questioned whether the previous government could not recover the huge amount of damage caused in areas like Dhulian while opposing the CAA movement and the Waqf Act from the accused.
