Allegation of 'river theft'! Notice issued to Showkat Molla's son over a cafe built by illegally filling in a river shoal.

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Showkat Molla has already been arrested by the NIA. Amidst this, an administrative notice has reached his son, Imran Molla. He faces allegations of constructing a cafe by illegally filling in a riverbed. Imran Molla has been summoned to appear at the SDO office by June 18. 'River theft'—such a serious allegation has been raised against the son of former Trinamool MLA Showkat Molla. Imran Molla owns a sprawling cafe in Moukhali, Jibantala. It is alleged that this illegal structure was built by filling in a shoal of the Matla River. A notice has now been sent to Showkat Molla's son regarding the construction of the cafe on encroached government land. Imran Molla has been directed to appear at the SDO office by June 18.

On Thursday, the central agency NIA conducted raids across various parts of Canning in search of Showkat Molla in connection with the Bhangar blast case. The NIA team also visited this restaurant owned by Showkat Molla's son, Imran Molla. Allegedly, complaints lodged with the administration regarding this illegal construction on the river shoal during the Trinamool regime yielded no results. That is not all; local shopkeepers are also leveling serious allegations against former Trinamool MLA Showkat Molla. While the father remains under arrest, the son has received a notice. Residents of Jibantala have one demand: Showkat's son's illegal cafe must be shut down immediately. One resident alleged, "This shoal land had been lying vacant for 25 years. Showkat Molla, his wife, and his associates sold off the available plots along this road for sums ranging from 5 to 7 lakh rupees each—an entirely illegal act." Allegations suggest that Showkat Molla's son encroached upon hundreds of *bighas* of shoal land to build the cafe. Locals claim that the site was formerly a riverine fishery. Saokat Molla's son has illegally constructed a café by encroaching upon the embankment of that river. Allegations have been raised against him for occupying approximately 40 bighas of land. Lodging complaints with the administration regarding this matter has yielded no results; instead, there have been threats to hurl bombs at homes during the night. Local residents have even alleged that they are still being intimidated with bombs and guns. Naturally, they are living in a state of fear.
