On Saturday morning, the ED conducted raids at multiple locations, including Madan Mitra's residences. Sources indicate that the search was linked to the municipal recruitment scam. In addition to his home in Bhowanipore, the agency visited an older flat owned by Mitra in Joka. Allegations suggest that Mitra facilitated illegal appointments to various posts across several municipalities, including Kamarhati, in exchange for bribes. The ED has uncovered evidence linking Mitra to over 125 illegal municipal appointments. Reports suggest Mitra used to reside in the Joka flat a decade ago. An ED raid was also conducted at Mitra's residence in Dakshineswar; sources report that cash and documents were recovered from beneath a bed there. The central agency also raided Mitra's party office at Jadubabu's Bazar. The Kamarhati MLA's residence is located on Dhirendranath Ghosh Road in Bhowanipore; an ED team, accompanied by police and central forces, arrived there on Saturday.
On the same day, police from the Salboni station visited Abhishek Banerjee's residence. A large contingent of state and Kolkata police arrived at Banerjee's Kalighat home in the early hours of Saturday. While the specific case prompting the visit remains unclear, sources suggest the police arrived to investigate a fraud case involving Sumit Roy, Abhishek Banerjee's Personal Assistant (PA). Additionally, the ED visited the homes of two businessmen—one in Beleghata and another in Joka. In total, the central investigative agency conducted searches at four locations.
