Jayprakash Majumdar Arrested: What Are the Allegations Against the Trinamool Spokesperson?

Sanchita Chatterjee, BS News Agency: Now, upon the mere sight of Jayprakash Majumdar, crowds have erupted in chants of "Thief! Thief!" Allegations have surfaced against Jayprakash accusing him of abusing his power for 14 years to forcibly occupy a residence. Concurrently, he faces accusations of issuing threats to the homeowner, Arati Roychowdhury. It is reported that his arrest followed immediately after a formal complaint was lodged with the police. Earlier today, right on the street, members of the homeowner's family became embroiled in a heated altercation with Jayprakash. They demanded that he unlock the house. Arati Devi's daughter stated unequivocally that, having been unable to reside in her own home for fourteen years, her mother has been forced to live in rented accommodations elsewhere. She asserted that this situation can no longer be tolerated.

Alongside the homeowner and her family members, local residents also erupted in outrage. Reports indicate that numerous BJP workers and supporters joined in, chanting "Thief! Thief!" A local resident remarked, "He has been occupying the house for a very long time. The homeowner's husband has passed away; yet, even after that, she was forcibly evicted—literally shoved out—of her own home. Despite receiving repeated legal notices, Jayprakash Majumdar refused to vacate the premises." Upon receiving reports of the escalating tension, police from the North Bidhannagar Police Station arrived at the scene. The homeowner, Arati Devi, accompanied the police to the station. Based on her formal complaint, the Trinamool spokesperson was initially detained and subsequently placed under arrest. A case has been registered against him under multiple sections of the law, including charges of threatening the homeowner, Arati Roychowdhury, and outraging her modesty. The arrested individual is scheduled to be produced before the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Court tomorrow.
