A 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for Kolkata starting this morning. Alipore's forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall in various parts of the metropolis over the next few hours. Along with the rain, gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are likely. Storms and rain have been raging in Hooghly, Medinipur, and Purulia since the early hours.
While rain arrived in Kolkata later in the morning, the western districts faced the brunt of the storm much earlier.
